New Rasbora named after fish exporter

A new Rasbora from southern Borneo has been described by ichthyologist Heok Hui Tan in the most recent issue of the Raffles Bulletin of Zoology.

The new species is named Rasbora patrickyapi after aquarium fish exporter Patrick Yap, who provided most of the type material.

Rabora patrickyapi is distinguished from congeners by the presence of an iridescent, black midlateral stripe bordered by a white stripe above it, reddish unpaired fins, a violet sheen on the sides of the body, the top of the body with a golden sheen, 28 scales on the lateral line, the presence of a distinct knob at the tip of the lower jaws, body depth at dorsal fin origin 23.9–26.1% standard length, predorsal length 54.0–56.6% standard length, 12–13 predorsal scales, 5.1.2 transverse scale rows at the anus, and 15 circumpeduncular scales.
