Daniel Ferstl: "Searching for Bigfoot"

Wien (galerie hrobsky) - Daniel Ferstl, ein junger österreichischer Künstler, der ein Studium an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in den Fächern Malerei und Trickfilm abgeschlossen hat, arbeitet mit symbolhaften Übertragungen aus der Welt der jüngeren Fiktion, aus Trash-Medien wie Comics und Film, die Verbindungen zur Metaphysik und zum Paranormalen besitzen. Comicartig und plakativ wird mit zeitgenössischem Bildgut gespielt, sowohl mit Bruchstücken aus dem alltäglichen Umfeld des Künstlers, als auch mit thematischen Reflexionen.

Bigfoot bezeichnet ein Wesen der nordamerikanischen Folklore mit überdimensionalen Füßen, erheblicher Größe und starker Fellbehaarung, das in fast allen Gebirgen der USA und Kanadas, insbesondere in den Rocky Mountains und den Appalachen, angeblich gesichtet wurde.

Wie alle bekannteren Subjekte der Folklore ranken sich um Bigfoot nicht nur Legenden unter Einheimischen. Der Mythos dieser angeblichen Sichtungen hat auch eine Vielzahl populär-kultureller Verarbeitungen nach sich gezogen.

Daniel Ferstl produziert in "Searching for Bigfoot" aus Folklore und populärer Ästhetik einen eklektischen Mix, der diese jeweiligen Werte aufeinander loslässt und so neue Ästhetik- und Erzählformen zwischen Medienwelt und vermeintlicher Realität, Aberglauben und Pseudowissenschaft ergibt. Zu sehen ist eine medienübergreifende Installation aus Malerei, Zeichnung und Objekt.
