Four tiger cubs found hidden in a car in Vietnam

119 pangolins seized in the haul

September 2012. Police in Vietnam found four live tiger cubs and 119 pangolins hidden on September 4. Two men who were in the car were arrested.

It is not known where the tigers or the pangolins came from, but there are thought to be fewer than 30 wild tigers left in Vietnam. A recent WWF report ranked Vietnam as the worst country for worldwide conservation. The burgeoning economy combined with some old beliefs, organised crime and corruption, has meant that Vietnam has become the driver of much huge amounts of wildlife crime. Having exterminated all of its own rhinos recently, demand from Vietnam is believed to be behind the recent huge surge in rhino poaching in Africa.
