Unusual
white bank vole
November 2012. Ronny Steen of the Norwegian University of Life
Sciences has sent us this unusual image of a white bank vole that was
caught on camera. The image was captured by a camera that was monitoring the
nest of a kestrel. Whilst leucism is a well-known condition, it is unusual to
record it in smaller mammals, probably due to their vulnerability to predators
caused by their lack of camouflage.
Steen
has written a paper about the vole, click
