The largest coastal flood realignment scheme will be unveiled tomorrow through an exciting partnership between the Environment Agency and RSPB.
Up to 350 properties, two holiday parks and a water treatment plant will be protected from the sea at Medmerry, West Sussex, and there will also be a divided for conservationists.
The scheme will provide 444 acres acres of wetland habitat, equivalent to 300 football pitches, which will prove a boon for birds such as the rare black-tailed godwit as well as the protected water voles.
As part of the scheme, almost five miles of new sea walls built. Once the 1,000 acre Steart Peninsula project opens in Somerset next year, the amount of man-made coastal flood habitat in the UK will have been doubled.
