The terrifying moments before a shark attack can only be imaged by most people, but video from a remote controlled underwater camera is allowing everyone to see the moment up close.
The video was filmed with a high-tech Remus SharkCam from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. The camera was placed off Mexico’s Guadalupe Island, a known habitat for Great White sharks.
Footage from multiple views around the device show the SharkCam under water. Suddenly, a shark comes up from beneath it and snapping its powerful jaws closed on the device, sinking its razor sharp teeth in and clamping down. There’s also equally chilling footage that shows a shark approaching the camera head-on before biting in.
