After Al-Bisan Zoo in north Gaza was heavily damaged in recent air strikes, international animal charity FOUR PAWS undertook an operation to transfer three lions from the zoo to a rescue centre in Jordan.
The bombing, which took place in July, resulted in the deaths of around 80 animals, and around 30 surviving animals were left with little or no food, water, or veterinary care.
FOUR PAWS emergency relief team provided the remaining animals with food, water, and medical treatment, and temporarily repaired and cleaned the damaged enclosures. They also crucially re-established the water supply, as the animals had gone for days without fresh water. The three lions, including a pregnant lioness, were a priority rescue due to their species needs.
