New app helps people across India report wildlife crimes

An app that allows users to report wildlife crimes across India has been developed by the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and India's Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB).

“The application provides a secure platform for real time exchange of wildlife crime related information between WCCB and relevant stakeholders,” said Shri S S Garbyal, the director of WCCB. “It is also a handy reference tool on the provisions of the Wild Life Protection Act for field level officers. WTI effort will therefore contribute greatly in improving wildlife crime enforcement in the country.”

The app allows an individual to report a wildlife crime quickly and efficiently as the lead will be automatically delivered to a designated email id of WCCB. The user can also crucially remain anonymous and the WCCB will be the sole custodian of the collected information. Importantly no details of the person reporting the crime will be shared without the prior consent of the individual.
