Staff at Dartmoor Zoo, Devon have resorted to playing lynx noises in an attempt to lure the two-year-old animal, which escaped from the zoo last week, into a humane trap.

The lynx called Flaviu reportedly responded to the noises late on Sunday night and zoo owner Benjamin Mee said plans were now being made to record a sample of its mother.

Despite being based at Port Lympne in Kent and not being the season for calls Benjamin said the team are confident the mother’s calls will work.

He said: “The latest is we have got a delivery of the lynx’s mother’s bedding.

“Flaviu was very attached to his mum and we are also trying to get a recording of his mother calling out.

“We played a general lynx call last night and some of our younger staff thought they heard a reply.

“His mum is at the zoo he came from in Kent and it’s not the season for her to be calling, but the team there are encouraging her with other sounds.
